Raymond W, Manhattan I had just turned 57 when I cheered for my daughter at the Banco Popular Chicago Half Marathon. I remembered just how much fun I had running when I was a teenager. I even remembered when the first Boston Marathon was held and thought that would someday be my goal. I also realized that most runners are retiring at my age and not just starting. And I remember that just 10 years ago my doctor told me that I was too old to run. Well, that Christmas a gift certificate for running shoes and a beginners running book by Hal Higdon was under the Christmas tree. And I soon learned that he celebrated his 60th birthday by running 6 marathons in 6 weeks! And now he is in his 70’s and still running. So I thought-----I got time. I read the book and looked at his training program. Step one was to run for 30 seconds then walk for 30 seconds 15 times. I did that then took a 2 hour nap. I eventually worked myself up to run the Banco Popular half Marathon later that year at age 58 and did ok. I was told that if I wanted to improve I had to cross train to strengthen my core. I had no clue just what that was all about. So I joined the local Gym, as the weather was inclement, and my next big race was the Shamrock Shuffle. I figured that at the gym you just piled on the weights and did 75-100 repetitions of whatever. That is when my daughter came to my rescue and introduced me to Wanda. I arrived at the Gym and waited for her. I was pleasantly surprised as she drove up in a jeep, she jumped out with a clipboard and marched into the room with the enthusiasm of a drill sergeant. I liked that as it told me that she is serious about what she does. From the beginning she set me straight. She taught me the correct way to use the machines, the sequence of their use so that all the muscle groups are exercised, body posture and alignment, and most importantly how to breath, and to do the sequences deliberately so as isometrics are added into the equation. Well needless to say I give a lot of credit to Wanda as I finished my first Chicago Marathon. My time was 5 hours and 57 minutes. This sounds like a long time as by the time I was completing mile 10 the Kenyans were finishing the race. But when I looked back after I finished there were 7,000 runners in back of me. Thanks to my daughter and Wanda as I couldn’t have done this without your help.
Deb B. - I just wanted to drop you a note to thank-you for being the inspiration for me to get on a regular exercise program. You were very matter of fact about needing to just make it a priority and make the time to do it. Well I was feeling a bit blue and clothes getting tight and not having enough energy so I just started. I bike, walk or hike now at least 3 to 4 times a week and have found that I look forward to it. A side effect has been that my body craves healthy food and plenty of water -- all good things for my health. I plan to stay on this program and sprinkle in variety to stay motivated. You're right -- I just needed to make the time and build it into the routine.
Thanks again for your encouragement.
Karen S., Monee About 5 years ago I lost 35 pounds using the Weight Watcher's program. Having been a speed walker for 15 years prior to the weight loss, I tried running instead and found it was now possible for me to run. It's amazing how much more effort and energy it takes to carry 35 extra pounds. In the last 5 years I've run a marathon in Chicago and half marathons in Chile, Antarctica, and Grand Rapids. I've also run a bunch of 5K and 10K races. I considered myself a fit woman. Last May I decided I needed strength and weight training and workouts that exercised my whole body. I'm 56 and believe as I age, I need to keep my whole body in better shape. I wasn't sure what exercises to do and knew that I didn't want to injure myself in the learning process. I went to the local gym even though I've always hated working out in them because I feel like a hamster in a cage when I'm in them. Wanda was a personal trainer at the gym and she agreed to work with me. I've been meeting with her 3 times a week for the last 8 months and each time I go the routine is different. I actually like working out in the gym with her and love the benefits my body is getting. I travel quite frequently and go to places all over the world. My trips are usually quite adventuresome and include hiking, biking, kayaking and keeping my body healthy in places where that can be challenging. I sometimes find myself having to squeeze into tiny side cars attached to motorcycles, riding in very small planes, riding in jeepneys and using squatter toilets. Each time I find myself in a challenging physical situation I say a small prayer of thanks for Wanda. Those squats and many of the other exercises she has me do are really making my life easier. Imagine that........ Wanda is a fun person to work out with. She's very positive, a good listener, and really knows her stuff when it comes to teaching me the right way to do the exercises to avoid injury and get the most benefits.
Paige E., Wilmington I am 18 years old and I will be starting college next year. I have very specific goals, i have to pass ROTC training to get my scholarship for college. I have been working with Wanda since February. I have never been able to run even a half mile and I have to be able to pass a 2 mile run for my ROTC training in under 19 minutes. Wanda set up a running program and I can now run 2 miles and run for longer periods of time. She has given me some of the hardest things to do in my life and she made me realize i can achieve more than i thought i would ever be able to, and I realize it has to do with challenging myself. All of our sessions are different and i love it as much as i like to complain about them. Every week she pushes me to my limit and it makes me feel so much stronger! She is awesome and i am so happy i have her as my personal trainer.
Jim Yodual, Monee I was scheduled for a “stress test”, by my heart doctor, and knew that I was in no shape to complete the test. I contacted a local gym and was told that Wanda was an excellent Personal Trainer. I contacted her and we started training two times a week at a very slow pace (Which was perfect for me). After two months I was able to complete the test (with some to spare) and have lost 12 pounds. I have continued to train with Wanda two times a week, and found that I was able to perform everyday house maintenance a lot easier, and I fit into clothes that I thought I would never get into again. Wanda has and continues to keep me challenged, at a pace and plan that is perfect for me. Since starting to train with Wanda, I have been able to reduce the use of Blood Pressure and Heart Medication, which enables me to save money on prescription costs. My wife is also much happier with me. Thanks Wanda!
Rose J., Frankfort I started the Get Fit Program in January since then I feel a lot stronger and with more energy. Wanda is a very good trainer, she gives us the attention we need to get motivated, whether it is in a facility or at her own home we get a good workout. I recommend this program for anyone that wants to lose weight or just get toned it's the Perfect Program.
Karen A., Tinley Park I have been training with Wanda for about 4 months, once a week. In that short time I have lost weight, built a lot of muscle as well as muscle definition. My energy level along with my endurance capacity has improved significantly.
Lisa K., Mokena Turning 45 years, I found myself falling deeper and deeper into despair. I could not control my weight gain or my flabby shape. I felt I had to do something and I knew I had to make a serious commitment to make a change. I found the commitment and individualized attention to make that change. After 6 months and the loss of 12 inches, I owe thanks to Wanda and Perfect Fit Personal Training
Linda M., Naperville I for one can vouch for Wanda! I had a C section 5 months ago and started working out too soon and pulled a back muscle. I didnt think I was ever going to recover! She has worked with me and showed me how to strengthen my core muscles which in turn helped my back out tremendously!! She is great at what she does, and brings everything she has to the table. I would recommend her to anyone!"
Amanda D., New Lenox "I had never worked out a day in my life when I started training with Wanda 4 months ago. I have learned so much in a short amount of time. I have an incredible amount of energy, I sleep great, and my clothes fit so much better. Thanks, Wanda, for helping me achieve my goals!
Janet K., Park Forest I am not in the habit of writing testimonials, but I really wanted to write one about my personal trainer, Wanda. Physical fitness has always eluded me. At 55, I think I have found the key to acquiring normal weight, physical fitness, and enjoyment (yes ENJOYMENT!!) of physical activity, I am more interested in maintaining and promoting health, because I would like to live to be 95! Since I have always seen myself as uncoordinated and just not physically “talented”, I have resisted and hated exercise all of my life. I am learning to see the benefits of exercise. I also need to learn how to exercise and what to do. In other words, I need a patient, yet direct teacher: a personal fitness coach. I am learning plenty!!. I THOUGHT I knew how to exercise, but I am learning lots more about what to do. For me, Wanda is a terrific personal trainer! If you are unsure about whether or not to do this for yourself, give yourself the benefit of the doubt and do it! Wanda, thank you for all you do to help me look and feel stronger, healthier and happier!
Liza Lee, Flossmoor If you are looking for someone to motivate you, work you, challenge you, inspire you with new exercises as well as push you through some good old fashioned boot-camp basics, call or email Wanda!! She is reliable, on-time, prepared, a good listener and will demand you give your best. She makes sure you are doing the exercises safely but effectively to maximize your efforts. I enjoy her work-outs with a group of 6 other women 2 days a week through her Fitness Camp. She brings the equipment and balanced combinations of resistance, weights and cardio exercises to push us each to work-out to our maximum potential. Wanda McCormick is a treasure -- the perfect balance of toughness and empathy, motivation and humor -- she IS the perfect fit!!
I. Shaffer, Flossmoor My pain and my gain are testaments to Wanda's success as a fitness coach. If you want to kick start your fitness routine, she can make you stronger and keep you motivated, and it's fun, too."
RM, Frankfort I have been diagnosed with fibromyalgia and was nervous about introducing real exercise. Plus I absolutely hate exercising. Wanda got me going slowly and I am now committed to both a weight loss program and faithful to a three time a week exercise program. Wanda gave me the “jump start” I needed!
Merit G, Midlothian After recovering from a broken leg and three months of physical therapy, I was anxious to get my strength back. Having regularly scheduled workouts with Wanda was exactly what I needed to get back into shape and to put myself first. So much of my day is about doing things for other people, it is important to remember to do something for myself. I love that I don't have to think about what exercises to do, it's great because she always brings a new workout plan that covers every body part and I am never bored with the routine like I used to be when I worked out on my own & didn't really know too many different exercises. I don't always like what she has on the plan, but I always feel accomplished when we're done.
Pat L, Mokena This letter is to wish you luck at your new location, and to thank you for convincing me of the importance of strength training in my exercise regime and not just cardiovascular workouts. As a person living with cancer, strength training was a huge help to me and I think it helped me at golf also. My stamina, arm and back strength are improved and that alone helped me improve my golf game. You are a very knowledgeable personal trainer and hopefully after my medical problems are resolved, I can resume strength training.
Kara V., Monee As a mom of 3 children under the age of 4, it is very hard to find time for yourself let alone time to workout! Wanda's Boot Camp is perfect! It is 30 minutes 2 to 3 times a week of an exercise routine that fits into my schedule and is effective! I noticed after 6 weeks my clothes fit better and I have more energy! Her classes are tough but fun as well. I would recommend it to anyone! I'm glad I found her!
